Arepas

These Venezuelan/Colombian cornmeal cakes are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, often stuffed with cheese, meats, or beans. Deliciously versatile, arepas are great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Ingredient

1 cup cornmeal, 1 cup water, 1/4 tsp salt, butter or oil for cooking

Method

    Mix cornmeal, water, and salt in a bowl to form a dough.


    Shape the dough into small patties.


    Cook the arepas in a lightly oiled pan over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy. Serve with cheese, avocado, or meats.
